Press Release 7/18/2019 – Cooking Matters at the Library
SLV Local Foods Coalition’s “Cooking Matters” is collaborating with the Alamosa Public Library to offer a quick glimpse into the Cooking Matters free nutrition education program on Wednesday July 24 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Individuals will tour four stations and learn about healthier food options. Adult participants will go home with a $10 gift card to City Market, a recipe/tip guide, and a Cooking Matters grocery bag. Interested individuals will have an opportunity to sign up for 6-week courses on that day.
Through Cooking Matters programming, participants learn to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals.
“Cooking Matters is making an impact and changing lives across the SLV,” said Lois Harvie, Cooking Coordinator for SLV Cooking Matters. “We teach folks how small changes over time add up to big changes, and improve health!”
Over the years, thousands of participants have benefited from Cooking Matters programming. A recent Cooking Matters graduate–who resides in Conejos County–noted, “I tried some new foods I would never have tried and added them to my diet. The tips I learned at the store tour made grocery shopping much less stressful and showed me how to shop for healthier options, read labels, and save money.” Rosa R. – La Jara
