Press Release 7/12/2019 – Stories and Songs with a Universal Theme

Alamosa Public Library Summer Reading Program

Purly Gates presents
“Stories and Songs with a Universal Theme”

Alamosa Public Library’s (APL) Summer Reading Program continues to bring laughter and inspiration to the community! This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories,” and each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in July, APL and patrons will explore something spacey with a visiting performer or expert. Last week, magician and all around hilarious entertainer Ann Lincoln brought her space-themed magic show (laced with facts about space exploration) to the Library, and the sounds of children’s laughter filled the air.  When asked by a young patron how she learned to make a balloon magically turn into a live bunny, Ann replied, “I read books!”

This Wednesday July 17, APL welcomes singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Purly Gates all the way from Texas.  Purly has performed for APL audiences for many years, and will present a mix of old songs, new songs, and stories to tickle the ears and imagination.

Registered readers can come a few minutes early to collect the beads they have earned through the Read for Beads incentive program. Registration is open online or at Alamosa Public Library. Go to alamosalibrary.org or call Children’s Librarian Holly Van Hoy at 719-589-6592 for more details.
