Press Release 3/25/2020 – COVID-19 Crime Concerns
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19 within their isolated populations, jails across the nation are releasing non-violent inmates.
In the City of Alamosa, we have seen an 18% increase in public order and property crimes since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. This does not include undocumented reports where the property owner did not make an official report. Alamosa Police Department (APD) is requesting all citizens stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The COVID-19 pandemic is evolving daily and APD continues to evolve with it while meeting the demands for public safety. We are recommending citizens take extra precautions such as locking doors, vehicles, and simply watching out for one another during these difficult times. APD is not scaling back efforts to continue providing quality services to protect and serve this community. We are asking for patience as we deal with an increase in call volume during this pandemic.
