City Library
The mission of Southern Peaks Public Library is to inform, educate, and culturally enrich the population of Alamosa County and the San Luis Valley. The library offers a broad range of materials and information services as part of a larger library community with whom we share resources. Our helpful and expert staff provides quality service and programs in a welcoming environment. The Southern Peaks Public Library was first established in the early 1900's as the Alamosa Public Library and Reading Association - a subscription library. Following a $6,000 donation in 1908 by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, the Alamosa Carnegie Library was dedicated in 1910 at the corner of 4th and State Avenue; eventually moving to its current location in 1961. From the very beginning, the library has been a haven for residents and visitors encouraging lifelong learning, knowledge through self-education, and the joy of reading.
