Meet Our Judge

The Honorable Judge Daniel P. Powell graduated in 1980 from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, Economics and History. In the fall of 1980, he matriculated to the New England School of Law/Boston, where he obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1983. After serving as Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge Daniel J. Shannon, Chief Judge of the Jefferson County District Court, Judge Powell practiced law in Denver and Boulder from 1984, until moving to the San Luis Valley in 1995. Judge Powell served as Managing Attorney of the Alamosa and Trinidad offices of Colorado Rural Legal Services, and in 1996 began his law practice in Alamosa. Judge Powell served as Conflicts Judge in the Alamosa Municipal Court from 1999 through 2009. On January 1, 2010, Judge Powell was appointed as Presiding Judge of the Alamosa Municipal Court.
