Why did Council vote to place these questions to allow marijuana stores before the voters?

Council received petitions for the ordinances signed by the required number of voters.   Under the Charter, Council could either enact the proposed ordinances as written in the petitions, or place the issue before the voters.  Council chose not to enact the proposed ordinances, but rather to place them before the voters.

What is the wording of the citizen initiated ordinance question to allow medical marijuana facilities within City limits?

THE CITY OF ALAMOSA SHALL ALLOW THE ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA STORES WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS.

What happens if I vote “yes”?

If passed, the question would create an ordinance to allow establishments and the operation of medical marijuana stores within the City limits.  Since it creates an ordinance, City Council would still have the prerogative to create regulations as it deems necessary.

What happens if I vote “no”?

Voting “no” would mean that you do not want to allow establishments and the operation of medical marijuana stores within the City limits.

THE CITY OF ALAMOSA SHALL ALLOW THE ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION OF RETAIL MARIJUANA STORES WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS AND LIMIT THE ADOPTION OF ANY RULES AND REGULATIONS ABOUT MARIJUANA SALES TO THOSE ENACTED FOR THE SALE OF ALCOHOL AS AMENDMENT 64 STIPULATES.
